Julie or Miyax is a 13 year old that has run away from her bad experiences in life. She is lost on the tundra and is on her way to her penpal in San Francisco. On her way she gets adopted by wolves. On this cold journey in Alaska she has to use the things her father taught her to survive. Find out what troubles Julie faces by reading this book.

Julie is a resourceful and gross teenager. What we mean by "gross" is she eats regurgitated food and puts wild peas in her smelly old socks.

We feel that you should be 11-15 to read this book, beacause it deals with mature issues. We also think that there were so many characters that you couldn't keep them straight.

This book is first in a series and was awarded a Newberry medal in 1973. This book has 170 pgs. and has illustrations. The publication date is 1972 by Harper Collins Childrens Books.
