The Wind Singer is a very hard book to get into, but once you do you can't put it down. It revolves around the city of Aramanth. Every one living there has to pass tests to progress into later life. The genre of the book is mainly adventure/quest with some humors points. The

Hath family of Aramanth are getting tired of all the tests that they start to rebel. The rebellion goes too far for Kestrel and Bowman Hath when they end up running into the Emperor and being put on a quest to restore the voice of the wind singer before it's too late. Bowman and kestrel have the ability of telepathy. Joined by Mumpo their quest gets even more risky.

I recommend this book to the ages of 9/12. I am just dying to read the next two books in the win don fire trilogy.
