Northern Lights is a book of great enjoyment right from the start. Its about a savage girl called Lyra who breaks the rules of going into the study and ends up saving her Uncle's life. It takes place in the heart of the city of Oxford.

The genre of this book is quest/adventure. Philip uses a good sense of imagery and sees that everyone's soulmate is a shape changing daemon (pronounced demon). It is a book of good verses evil and at some points you don't know who's the good one.

I give this book a 9/10 or in my words OUTSTANDING though it didn't quite make a 10. I recommend this book to the ages of 12 and over. The book is also a little bit of fantasy at points. Its worth the price its given...
